Most apples today are grown on super dwarfing rootstock and, while highly productive, are too weak to grow without a trellis, irrigation, and readily available nutrition.

But what if you want a tree for the pasture or wildlife food plot? That won't work at all. Here you need a tree that can get 40 feet tall, send roots deep down and take care of itself.

Enter the seedling standard apple. These trees are more like Johnny Appleseed's trees, ready to grow in a wilderness.

They have not been grafted, but they do come from cultivar mother trees, so the likelihood of them having decent fruit is a little higher than normal.

In a year or two they will be ready to graft, if you are into that. Otherwise they'll just grow and likely produce good wildlife apples in 10 years or so.
