Also known as the white walnut, the butternut is highly valued both for it's light colored walnut wood and for its highly flavored soft oily nuts.
Unfortunately this tree is becoming increasingly rare due to butternut canker and crossbreeding with heartnuts. We have not tested our mother trees, so we do not know if these trees are 100% butternut or if they have some heartnuts parentage.
They do, however, look and act like butternuts and will fill a similar role in your food forest.
Plant at least two trees for heavier yields.
Butternuts cannot be shipped to MO, KS, IN, MI IA, NE, MN.
1 year-old seedling bare root plants approx. 10-20" tall
*Ship in spring and fall
Hardiness zone: 3-7
Mature height: 40-60 ft.
Begin bearing in 7-10 years.
