Currant Bushes - Red, Black & White Berries for Jams & Fresh Eating
Tart, jewel-toned berries hanging in clusters like tiny grapes - currants are the overlooked treasure of the berry world. These productive shrubs pump out pounds of fruit perfect for jams, syrups, and pies that'll make your grandmother's recipes sing.
Black currants deliver fresh, tart berry flavor ideal for preserves and cordials. Red and white varieties offer slightly sweeter options for fresh eating.
These compact shrubs fit perfectly in urban yards, producing heavily in partial shade where other fruits fail. Close relatives of gooseberries, currants require minimal care once established. Perfect for edible hedges, forest gardens, and small spaces.

Black September- An easy to grow English variety that bears good crops of firm, large, sweet. this is a new currant for me. I'm impressed with it's growth, but I can't tell you about the flavor.
Black down -Vigorous English variety bearing large crops of delicious fruit. This currant is best when dead ripe. When I first tasted it I thought it tasted very weird, almost chemically. Now I crave it. And with good reason. Currants are higher in Vitamin C than oranges with high antioxidants. It's worth the work of getting over the unfamiliar flavor.
Primus- We say these currants taste like Mountain Dew. Sweet, tart and with an indefinable flavor that definitely makes you think of soft drink.
Consort - Deep black fruits full of juice, strong acidity, and slightly sweet. USDA zones 4-7.
Red Lake Currant - Firm deep red fruit, spreading canes, and medium vigor. Hardy in zones 4-8.
Blanca - Creamy white to light yellow sweet fruits delicious fresh from the vine. USDA zones 4-7.
Jostaberry - A cross of black currant and gooseberry giving you a gooseberry taste with a hint of black currant, sweet and slightly acidic. Fruit is larger than a currant and ripens mid-summer. Vigorous, disease resistant plant hardy in zones 4-8.
