Fig Trees - Ancient Fruit for Modern Homesteads

There's something almost biblical about biting into a fresh fig straight from your own tree. That honey-sweet flesh, the delicate texture, the way they split open in the summer sun - figs connect us to centuries of gardeners who treasured these same flavors.

Fig trees are surprisingly cold-hardy for a Mediterranean fruit. Varieties like Chicago Hardy offer similar appearance and taste, making them excellent choices for northern growers. Plant them in the ground or in containers for winter protection.

Plant in full sun with good drainage. Figs tolerate poor soil but reward you with heavier crops when well-fed. The large, architectural leaves create instant tropical ambiance. Perfect for fresh eating, drying, preserves, or grilling. Many varieties are self-fertile.
