Osage Orange

1 year old dormant bare-root trees approximately 8:-20" tall shipped in Nov/Dec or Apr/May.

Is it a breadfruit? A green orange? A monkey brain? 

No, it's an Osage orange. 

While the inedible fruit ("hedge apples") is the most dramatic part of this tree, don't ignore it's incredibly hard rot-resistant wood. It's valued for fence posts these days, but Native Americans valued it for making bows. 

Its potent thorns make a properly spaced row of these trees an impenetrable hedge, while the high protein leaves have been used by drought stricken farmers as emergency animal feed. 

Beautiful fall orange color. All in all, a valuable native tree.
